Dr Mika Peace presents her fire research at a pub in Adelaide.
An engaged group of people had an opportunity to learn about fire research from a CRC researcher at a Science in the Pub event in Adelaide earlier this month.
“The question we need to be informed by science is how and where fires are going to burn and how can we mitigate against the impacts,” Dr Peace said.
Dr Peace spoke about the dangers of pryocumulonimbus clouds, computer simulations assisting with ember spotting; and the predictive tools to help better model bushfire behaviour.
“The rate of spread, flame height, plume dynamics, ember transport, fire whirls, crown fires and fire intensity all need to be considered when talking about fire behaviour,” Dr Peace said.
Dr Peace also recently represented the CRC at the South Australian Library for the ‘Science gets social’ event as part of National Science Week.
