An ABC documentary covering the science behind some of Australia’s greatest threats has drawn on CRC science and experts.
Decoding Danger, which aired in September and is now available on iView, is a three-part documentary covering bushfires, floods and storms, and predators. Research from both the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC and Bushfire CRC is featured in the third episode about firestorms.
From the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC, Prof Jason Sharples (University of New South Wales) discusses his research on the extreme bushfire behaviour known as velocity-driven lateral spread from the Fire coalescence and mass spotfire dynamics project, while Bushfire CRC science is featured heavily throughout, presented by A/Prof Kevin Tolhurst (University of Melbourne), Dr Mary Omedei (La Trobe University) and Justin Leonard (CSIRO).
The firestorm episode also covers carbon abatement research and practice in northern Australia with Dr Andrew Edwards (Charles Darwin University) which has involved many organisations and Indigenous groups in recent decades, including both CRCs.
