This project will demonstrate the ability to automatically generate fire-ground specific views of the most up-to-date spatial information about:
- the availability of surface water for use by aerial firefighting craft (rotary wing and fixed wing)
- fire behaviour in the previous 72 hours
- the amount of green and dry vegetation.
These fire-ground specific views of spatial data are intended improve situational awareness and flight planning for dispatch offices, pilots and ground support crews. The web service outputs will be compared with flight path data provided by NAFC to assess whether water bodies detected identified using spatial analysis and satellite imagery match with those visited by firefighting aircraft.
