Donated funds contribute to post-fire research

A donation of $100,000 that the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC received from global investment bank, Jefferies Financial Group, has been used to fund the following important post-fire research projects: 

Community attitudes and experiences of the 2019/20 bushfire season:
Funding is assisting the NSW Rural Fire Service to understand the suitability and effectiveness of its communications during the 2019/20 bushfire season, and inform the future development of emergency management responses, community education and public safety initiatives.

Maintaining positive mental health and wellbeing for young adult emergency service volunteers:
Funding will be used to create additional mental health education and training resources, to assist in translating the findings of the research into better mental health outcomes specifically for the 16-25 year old emergency service volunteers cohort. 

Understanding experiences and recovery capabilities of diverse communities in Gippsland post 2019/20 bushfires:
Funding is helping to develop a greater understanding of what constituted and enabled recovery of different cohorts within communities in relation to recovery and how best to support a more nuanced understanding of how recovery needs for different cohorts can be addressed. This is particularly important for vulnerable groups such as those with a disability as well as culturally, ethically, gender or demographically diverse populations.
