There is an identified need to investigate mental health outcomes in young emergency services volunteers and the practices that can minimise the impact of experiencing potentially traumatising events and promote positive mental health amongst this cohort.

Supported by the Hospital Research Foundation, the objective of this project is to deliver a valid, defensible, practical and usable framework for supporting mental health in young adult (16-25 year old) emergency service volunteers, which can be utilised at an individual, local and organisation-wide level, in order to minimise the short and long term impacts of exposure to potentially traumatising events and maintain mental health and wellbeing more generally.

The expected outcomes include:

  • a Wellbeing Framework for emergency service organisations to support the mental health and wellbeing of young adult volunteers
  • information on supporting one's own mental health and wellbeing specifically targeted to the young adult volunteer cohort.
