Child-centred disaster risk reduction research, conducted by the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC, is set to be featured in an upcoming webinar series on bushfire resilience.
Bushfire Resilience Inc are hosting a five-part Get Bushfire Resilientwebinar series over August and September to share information with households in rural areas and on the urban fringe.
Dr Briony Towers (RMIT University), lead researcher on the CRC’s Child-centred disaster risk reductionproject, will present her findings at the fourth webinar, ‘Why get kids involved in the family bushfire plan’, on 7 September at 7:30pm. Dr Towers will be joined by Michelle Roberts (Australian National University), clinical psychologist Dr Rob Gordon OAM and the Principal of Strathewen Primary School, Jane Hayward, to describe why and how to get your kids involved in bushfire preparations.
Other topics in the series include ‘Your vegetation – what you need to know’, ‘Your last resort options’ and ‘Understand your bushfire risk’, featuring A/Prof Kevin Tolhurst AM (University of Melbourne), Justin Leonard (CSIRO), Adj Prof Jim McLennan (La Trobe University) and more.
This is the third year of Bushfire Resilience Inc’s webinar series. The series in 2020 focused on ow houses are destroyed by bushfires and what actions can be taken to harden up your house. Last year’s series explored common household bushfire risks with a specific focus on water tanks, pumps and sprinklers.
Get Bushfire Resilient aims to deliver fire preparation information to assist in better decision making by bringing in presenters who are experts in fire science, fire behaviour and the best safety strategies for households living with fire risk.
