Research by a CRC team to map community engagement across Australia has received an award from the Queensland Inspector-General Emergency Management.
A/Prof Kim Johnston (Queensland University of Technology), Prof Maureen Taylor (University of Technology Sydney) and Dr Barbara Ryan (University of Southern Queensland) were recently presented with the highly commended Champion of Change Award at the 2020 Public Safety and Associated Agencies International Women’s Day event on 6 March in Brisbane by Queensland’s Inspector-General Emergency Management, Alistair Dawson.
Hosted by the Queensland Police Service, the annual event celebrates the work of women across Queensland’s public safety and integrity agencies and provides an opportunity for staff to come together to network, learn, raise awareness and recognise women’s achievements.
A/Prof Johnston, Prof Taylor and Dr Ryan’s research, being undertaken as the Tactical Research Fund project Mapping approaches to community engagement for preparedness in Australia, is helping emergency management agencies better prepare communities for emergencies, with long-term benefits such as a continuous model of community engagement for preparedness.
