The catastrophic 2013 Forcett Tasmania bushfire disaster affected people's lives significantly. A constructivist grounded theory method of analysis was used to develop a substantive theory to understand community members' experience of a bushfire disaster.
This webinar by completed PhD student Dr Fiona Jennings (RMIT University) is based on interviews with 40 people from the small communities of Forcett, Copping, Boomer Bay, Dunalley, Connelly’s March and Murdunna, as well as the towns of Bream Creek and Marion Bay. It will explore what happened, how community members approached the event and why, and the importance or meaning that underpinned their actions.
A qualitative study of resident involvement in the 2013 Forcett Tasmania bushfire disaster is outlined in detail in Dr Jennings' thesis, published in 2018. To learn more visit Dr Jennings' project page.
