Dr Kerry McBain is an Associate Professor of Psychology at James Cook University. Her research interests include environmental psychology, place attachment, climate adaptation, community resilience, and interpersonal communication. She is particularly interested in how individuals and communities understand, interpret, and respond to environmental hazards, and how psychological insights can inform strategies to strengthen preparedness, resilience, and recovery. Her current Natural Hazards Research Australia project examines community experiences of flood warnings, evacuation messaging, and decision-making during the 2025 Townsville floods.
