This project assessed the post fire impact of the 2016 World Heritage Area fires in the Pencil Pine forests in Tasmania
One year after the fires within the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area fires, this project measured fire impacts, especially tree survival. The project established detailed assessment of mortality and vegetative and seed regeneration of pine throughout the burnt areas.,as well as records of geolocation, terrain variables and measuring the diameter of burnt twigs understory fuels, which provides a very good proxy for fire intensity. The research team also made detailed assessments of the impact of the fire on organic soils, which may have been eroded by intense rainfall in May 2016.
