Project details

This PhD research investigates multi-agency collaboration in disaster recovery, focusing on the Bega Valley Shire in New South Wales, following the 2019–2020 Black Summer bushfires. The study explores how various agencies, governmental, non-profit, and community-based, worked together to support social, psychosocial and health recovery in affected communities. Using a case study methodology centred on the experiences of community recovery workers, the research examines collaborative structures, work practices and the enabling factors that supported effective inter-agency coordination.

The research aims to identify evidence-based strategies to enhance collaborative disaster recovery practices. These findings will inform improvements in state emergency management frameworks and local recovery planning. By highlighting the value of community-led and networked approaches, the study seeks to support more effective, sustainable, and inclusive recovery outcomes for individuals and communities impacted by disasters.
