Jessica Hellier

Jessica completed a Bachelor of Arts & Science at Monash University, majoring in Geography and International Studies. This combination of interest in the environment and social systems drew her to the field of natural hazard management. While living in the United Kingdom, Jessica worked for a local council in the area of flood risk management, and has continued working in flood risk and stormwater management upon returning to Melbourne. 

Jessica is currently working for Melbourne Water in development planning, while also undertaking her Master of Urban Planning at the University of Melbourne. Her research focuses on how current land use planning mechanisms address flood risk, and whether there are opportunities to more comprehensively treat this risk through the planning system. 

Student project

This research will evaluate current land use planning policy in Melbourne, Australia in terms of how well it defines and addresses flood risk.
