AFAC20 - don't miss out!

It’s going to be a big one in Adelaide in August.

The AFAC20 conference follows an extraordinary period for emergency management across Australia.

For those who have already submitted an abstract to speak in Adelaide, thank you, your abstract is already in the selection process that I expect to be tougher than usual. 
Haven’t got around to it yet? Don’t panic, the good news is that the submission date for abstracts has been extended to Friday 28 February. Don’t miss out.

AFAC20 is a great way to profile your research to the whole sector at either the CRC Research Forum or other parts of the conference program.

What’s expected for CRC researchers and PhD students

All core research projects that have received research or utilisation funding since 2017 and students currently receiving scholarships from the CRC are expected to actively participate in AFAC20. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for associate students and completed PhD students to share their research on a national scale.

The conference will be held in Adelaide from 25-27 August. Here’s what you need to do to participate:

1. Submit an abstract to the Research Forum. 

a) For CRC projects this may include related extension research you may have undertaken that goes beyond your CRC-funded project

b) If your research for a CRC-funded project has already led to utilisation or is progressing towards utilisation, an additional abstract in partnership with relevant end-users will be strongly encouraged to be submitted to the AFAC20 main conference or one of the linked conferences:

i. AFAC20 main conference

ii. Women and Firefighting Australasia conference

iii. Australian Disaster Resilience conference

2. Submit a poster on your project using the CRC template, which will be made available soon

3. Where your abstract is accepted, each project will prepare and submit a 3000 word peer-reviewed paper to the CRC for inclusion in the conference proceedings. Associate and completed PhD students have the option of a non peer-reviewed extended abstract.

4. Authors will also be able to submit their paper for consideration to the Australian Journal of Emergency Management for review by the journal.

If your abstract is successful, we will fund those who meet the above criteria to attend the conference, covering your registration, domestic travel costs and accommodation. The CRC will cover these costs for one lead researcher from every project and for every researcher whose abstract linked to a CRC project is accepted for an oral presentation at the Research Forum or any of the linked conferences. For those who are based in Adelaide, only registration costs will be funded.

• Abstract submission opened - 2 December 2019
• Abstract submission close - 28 February 2020
• Authors notified of accepted abstracts - by end of March 2020
• 3000 word paper submitted for peer review - 17 May 2020
• Posters to be submitted - 26 June 2020
• Non peer reviewed extended abstracts submitted - 3 July 2020
• Conference starts - 25 August 2020
