The Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC is part of a new partnership with Minderoo Foundation. This week, Minderoo launched their Wildlife and Disaster Resilience Program (WDRP) as part of the Fire Fund – a long-term resilience plan that convenes leading experts from government, non-government and industry partners in the fields of natural hazards resilience.
CRC CEO Dr Richard Thornton says that natural hazards are wicked problems without simple solutions and the new program is a great way for our research to have a meaningful impact.
“We need a better grasp of the complexities to achieve change, and the CRC is excited to support Minderoo Foundation’s Wildfire and Disaster Resilience Program to ensure that the community continues to benefit from research to reduce the effects of natural hazards,” Dr Thornton says.
The WDRP aims to develop a new model for global leadership in climate-induced disaster resilience and will focus on four key themes: resilient communities, resilient landscapes and wildlife, enhanced disaster prediction and enhanced disaster response.
Organisations involved in the WDRP include federal and state government agencies; non-government organisations; financial, insurance and utilities; and peak bodies and industry associations.
