More than 60 researchers, burning practitioners and planners have explored how the knowledge emerging from research across Australia is influencing our landscape management.
Presentations showcased how the latest research continues to improve our understanding, planning, use and control of fire as a tool for reducing risk. CRC research took a prominent place on the program.
Prof Jeremy Russell-Smith spoke on his CRC research project Tools supporting fire management in northern Australia, detailing the Savanna and Rangelands Monitoring and Evaluation Reporting Framework, and other tools used in Australia’s northern savannnas.
Dr Marta Yebra shared how outputs from the CRC research project Mapping bushfire hazard and impactscan contribute to bushfire mitigation, and beapplied in agencies across the planning, preparedness and response stages.
All presentations are available on the event page.
Breakout discussions explored three themes:
Environment and climate
Planning and risk
Tools for prescribed burners
Group leaders reported the outcomes of these discussions, and a panel of key end-user representatives continued this conversation and opened to the floor for questions.
This is the second RAF of 2019, which continues the strong focus on utilisation and invites both CRC partners and other stakeholders to join the discussions. The dates for the 2019 RAFs are listed here.
