Is our current state of knowledge in natural hazards adequately preparing us for an extreme weather event? Make sure you're at the 12th Australasian Natural Hazards Management Conference in Canberra from 17-19 June to ensure your voice is heard.
#ANHMC19 will provide insights into what action is required now to prepare Australia and New Zealand for the natural hazards we're likely to face in the year 2035. The program is based around a scenario of cascading events, where key research and industry representatives explore the impacts through a series of panels designed for audience participation. Guest speaker Robert de Castella AO MBE, Director of the Indigenous Marathon Foundation, kicks off the welcome reception on 17 June, on the role of sport and community in disaster recovery. Keynotes on days two and three include:
Animesh Kumar, Deputy Head of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, Regional Office for Asia and Pacific
Mark Crosweller, National Resilience Taskforce, Department of Home Affairs
Jo Horrocks, Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management, New Zealand
Hosted by the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC and sponsored by the Department of Home Affairs, #ANHMC19 will be unlike any other conference, investigating how our systems would cope today, before shining a light on the future to examine how the same series of events could play out in 2035.
