Attendees discussing the the role of electricity networks.
A roundtable of senior Victorian emergency managers recently explored the role of electricity networks during natural hazards.
The CRC facilitated the discussion, which also considered the resilience of power networks and how to support better decision making to improve mitigation.
The meeting featured Ron Critelli, Senior Director of Power Delivery and Engineering from Florida Power and Light, who provided a unique perspective on electricity reliability during major hazard events and urged attendees to think differently about mitigation.
CRC Partnership Development Manager Sarah Mizzi said this was a rare opportunity for senior stakeholders to exchange ideas and learnings, on electricity network resilience and impacts on communities with an international perspective. “Ron’s insights about the importance of good community engagement to support a greater understanding of mitigation and resilience to manage severe weather events was quite powerful,” she said.
The roundtable was co-hosted by Emergency Management Victoria on 13 August.
