6th International Fire Behaviour and Fuels Conference

The International Association of Wildland Fire hosted the 6th International Fire Behaviour and Fuels Conference from Monday 29 April to Friday 3 May 2019, concurrently in Albuquerque, United States; Marseille, France; and Sydney, Australia. The Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC was the lead partner of all three conferences, and presented the Sydney conference in partnership with sponsorship from New South Wales Rural Fire Service and the Bureau of Meteorology. 

This year the conference explored the theme Fuels of Today–Fire Behaviour of Tomorrow, and featured livestreamed shared keynotes between the three locations. To find out more visit http://sydney.firebehaviorandfuelsconference.com/

Two pre-conference workshops were held on Monday 29 April:

• Workshop 1: Practical Application of Fire and Fuels Research in Prescribed Burning, a research forum of the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC presented with AIDR's Centre of Excellence for Prescribed Burning
• Workshop 2: Fire Weather, presented by the Bureau of Meteorology

Post-conference field trips ran on Friday 3 May:

• Field trip 1: From wilderness to western Sydney: Managing fires and fuels across the diverse landscapes of the Blue Mountains was hosted by the Office of Environment and Heritage NSW
• Field trip 2: Fire behaviour analysis tools and techniques, hosted by the NSW Rural Fire Service

The 2016 Fire Behaviour and Fuels conference, also partnered with the CRC, was held in Melbourne, Australia and in Portland, Oregon concurrently.
