About
David is the Cultural Fire and Partnerships Coordinator for the Bushfire Centre of Excellence at the Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA (DFES).
David’s cultural background stems from both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage, being from the Kaurareg people of Kirriri Island in the Zenadth Kes (Torres Strait). He has a strong passion for supporting community and is a member of the Kalamunda Volunteer Bushfire Brigade where he has observed and developed knowledge of fire behaviour within different fuel arrangements. In his current role, David is engaging with Traditional Custodians, land managers, and local communities to identify fire knowledge and best practices which he then shares and promotes across the bushfire sector.
He applies future thinking and adopts a “back on country” approach, keeping fuel loads down and maintaining Western Australia’s unique ecosystems for generations to come.
