Hayley Squance

Hayley is a veterinary technologist with over 20 years experience in the veterinary profession in various roles in urban and rural practices. Hayley was Associate Dean and Senior Lecturer for the Bachelor of Veterinary Technology programme at Massey University (New Zealand) between 2005 and 2017 and is now in an advisory and coordination role with the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) for animal welfare emergency management. Hayley is a PhD student with the Joint Centre for Disaster Research at Massey University. She was the founder and team leader for the veterinary emergency response team at Massey University which has had several national and international deployments. Hayley is an emergency management practitioner, researcher, advisor and educator.

Student project

Despite the plethora of international plans, guidelines, legislation and the increasing body of supporting academic literature regarding Animal Welfare Emergency Management (AWEM), New Zealand research remains relatively scant.
