About
Grant Pearce

In my day job, I am a senior fire scientist with the Scion Rural Fire Research Group in New Zealand. I have over 20 years experience research in all aspects of bushfires, and was a participant in the previous Bushfire CRC (predominantly in the Fire Behaviour program, and Project FuSE experimental burns). I was also a member of the Bushfire CRC Research Review Taskforce involved in reconstructing fire behaviour following the 2009 ‘Black Saturday’ bushfires in Victoria.

Student project

This project is investigating linkages between weather and climate, and fire climate severity in New Zealand, as a means of forecasting the occurrence of significant fire weather events and/or seasonal fire severity. A key outcome of the research will be the development of methods or tools that could be used by fire managers to predict the occurrence of severe fire weather.
