Doug Smith from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services will bring his expertise in strategy and reform to the Board of the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC, after being successfully elected at the recent Annual General Meeting.

The AGM took place alongside the Research Advisory Forum at the Australian National University in Canberra in October.
As the CRC, moved into its third year, several Board member's terms of appointment were set to expire. A vote from members at the AGM elected Mr Smith to the Board and re-elected seven current directors.

Mr Smith is currently the Chief Strategy Officer (Capability and Performance) with QFES. He is a former Chief Executive Officer of CrimTrac, a national information-sharing service for Australia’s police, law enforcement and national security agencies. He started his career with the Victorian Police Service in 1973 and in 1990 became an Inspector with the Queensland Police Service. In 1998 he was appointed Assistant Commissioner of the Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services.
He brings to the CRC Board extensive experience in developing strategic and reform strategies for organisations and a focus on governance, strategy, performance, transformation and risk, as well as strategic engagement with stakeholders.
