The Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC, AFAC and Australian Red Cross will together deliver emergency management products and services on behalf of Emergency Management Australia (EMA).
The Minister for Justice, Mr Michael Keenan, has announced that the consortium had been selected to deliver EMA’s professional development courses and workshops, school education program, knowledge management services and volunteer support. It reflects the ongoing commitment by the Federal Government to supporting emergency management.
The consortium will work closely with the Federal Government to ensure that the products and services it delivers are accessible to our wide emergency management community.
CEO of the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC, Dr Richard Thornton, said the announcement provided further opportunities for research outputs to support those in the emergency management sector and beyond.
“This is an exciting development that has the potential for people to be better informed about making their communities safer in the face of natural hazards,” Dr Thornton said.
Stuart Ellis, CEO of AFAC, said it is a great opportunity to partner with EMA to deliver services that enhance community resilience.
“It is a unique opportunity for our industry to continue to develop and strengthen itself with support from the Federal Government,” Mr Ellis said.
Australian Red Cross CEO Robert Tickner said "Red Cross brings a humanitarian focus to this innovative partnership, to reduce vulnerability and build more resilient communities. Through this venture we are seeking to build on and share expertise and experience in disaster management built over 100 years in Australia and overseas."
The consortium is in negotiation with the Attorney-General’s Department with the aim of commencing the delivery of professional development products and services for the emergency management sector later this year.
